Good day on Bluestone using flukes in clear water. We caught 15 plus a lot of solid keepers. Nothing bigger than 16” but we did see a couple bigger fish come up and chase.

Tough Day on the Stone - September 30th, 2020
Greg Nahodil and I fished Bluestone for a couple of hours on this Wednesday morning. We caught a couple first thing off cranks on pit bank then ran to Bull Falls. The water coming down the New was way up and stained. We struggled there. Next we ran to Bertha and picked up a few more. We went back to pit bank and the wind ran us off early by 11. I would guess we had 8 total and all under 13”.

Moncove Audible - September 23rd, 2020
Started off on beaver dam at Moncove at daybreak. Worked all the usual haunts and found nothing but grass and sticks. Loaded the boat up and went to Bull Falls at Bluestone, got there by 10:00am. Landed four and had three more chase with 15 minutes. Went on to catch 10 with a couple better fish. Had a big one hit and miss the fluke. The fish where in the middle of the river mostly, there and edges. I also had a small musky chase. We shoulda came here first thing this morning. Bull falls was clear and lower lake was stained and down, kinda strange.

Battle of Bluestone Day 2 - September 13th, 2020
I started off the day back in 14th place out of 60 anglers. I knew I needed to fish clean, fast, and hard to move up into the top 6 in the money. I stayed with my fluke bite where I left off yesterday. I caught 21 fish from 7am to 8am. I was catching a ton of short fish but eventually I started weeding them out and catching some bigger ones. I got a 16.0” and then four 13” fish to go with it. I had the best limit for day two and moved up to finish in the money in 4th place. Jared and I finished in 4th place team. I ended up catching 67 fish this day, bringing my two day tournament fish total to 104 fish in under 13 hours of fishing with an average fish per minute of 7.5. At the end of it all the couple quality fish I missed hurt my chances of winning. I ended up 4.5” back of Blaine Winters who won on the back of a 19” largemouth he caught on day one on the New River.
Battle of the Bluestone Day 1 - September 12th, 2020
Day one of the two day Battle of Bluestone was held on the New River. Water and weather was fabulous for September. Jared Meadows and I fished the two man team division together. We floated from upper Shanklins down to the Mouth of Indian Creek. The plopper bite was off in clear water but the fluke bite was on. I landed an 18.25” and a 14” and a 13” but I had two elevens that I could not cull. I had a 14” break me off and had another 16” hit but not yet cooked. I saw a huge smallie look and chase but not take. After day one I was in 14th place and Jared and I were in 6th place teams. Fun day that I caught 37 fish on but just could not cull those two 11” fish.

Four Feet Low - August 5th, 2020
The Corps of Engineers drew Claytor Lake down over four feet in anticipation of hurricane rain and it made for some tough fishing. Seemed like all keeper sized bass were pulled off deep and inactive. I never did catch a smallmouth. I did however manage to catch a lot of small spots and bluegill on a spinner fishing first drop.

Summertime Spread Out - July 26th, 2020
Brad and I hit Brooks to Sandstone for the fourth time in as many weeks. Fish are staring to spread out more as day after day of heat continue. I did better in a plopper than fluke today. I lost one between 17 and 19” after a long fight. I did manage to land 13 fish with 5 over 12” and a couple over 14”. The fish are spread out more than weeks past.
