Day Zero - May 29th, 2020

So after 10 years of having a bass boat and then four years of not having a bass boat. I then bought a Ranger. I have always wanted one and looking forward to years of adventure with it to come.

Five for the Road - May 27th, 2020

Stan and I hit Anthony and Knapps on a road trip for trout. Good trout were everywhere but would not hit. I did manage one gold and four  rainbows. I saw lots more gold trout left over from the gold rush. It was fun trying to catch them but also frustrating.

Crappie Day - May 22nd, 2020

Too many times this little lake has been too good to me. Well not today. I only managed 2 crappie, one perch and one bluegill today while fishing in the elite 8 WVKA bracket challenge. Needless to say I was eliminated by Jonathon Carte. I have never saw so many anglers on Moncove, it is however Memorial Day weekend.

Trout Day Trip - May 20th, 2020

Fished Anthony’s creek and Knapp just like I used to with my Dad back in college. Stopped by the spring and got some water. Found some rainbows, a couple gold trout and even a brook trout. Just missed a brown trout from hitting for the cycle. Stan caught his first rainbow.

Fishing the Greenbrier with Mr. Greenbrier - May 17th, 2020

Floated the Greenbrier with Brian Bostic on a beautiful morning. Fishing was a little slow and big fish were hard to find. Water was 65 degrees and very clear. I think a lot of fish are preoccupied with the spawn.  I caught maybe 63” best five fish. I caught mine on plopper, fluke and KVD 1.0 square bill. Bostic caught around 30 mostly small mostly on hard jerkbait and I caught 23. We floated 8.9 miles in 6 hours.

WVKA Bracket Challenge - May 16th, 2020

Whopper plopper early then fluke later allowed me to do just barely enough to win 64.75” to 60.75” over Terry Cooper to advance to the next round of 8 on next Saturday. I had two bigger fish come up and miss my fluke altogether that I thought might have cost my but I got by. Highlight of the day is seeing a pair of bald eagles up close.

A Solid Limit of Trout and Bass- May 13th, 2020

Despite the unseasonably cold weather today was a good one. I caught a nice limit of trout a nice limit of bass and had a killer sandwich. The crazy thing is water temps are still only 49 to 53 degrees and the fish are holding 70 yards off the bank, strange for this time of year,

WVKA Summersville- May 9th, 2020

I was honestly just tickled to catch a limit on this day. Massive cold front, it was snowing on morning of the tournament, wind 15 to 25 mph sustained winds, and it just was not easy. I had 7 bites in 7 hours. But I caught all 7 and had a small limit, I finished 12th. Harper and I finished 2nd place on teams. This is only tournament location that we just cannot seem to win first place team at. Maybe next year.

Spring Confusion - May 3rd, 2020

On a day when we could see them better than we could catch them Jack and I managed only 8 between Moncove and Long Branch. Mostly on fluke. It seems the weather swings from 40 to 80 have the fish as confused as it does us.

Mountain Valley Mayhem - May 2nd, 2020

Jack, Greg, Matt Burdette and I fished MV lake at daybreak on a Saturday when all other SC watersheds were blown out. There were 14 kayaks on the lake by 10:00am. I caught 6, Jack 4, Matt 6 and Greg 13. Not very many were big. The water was muddy and falling.

Mayday Cold Front - May 1st, 2020

Jack and I braved 40 degrees air temps, 15 mph winds, and 55 degree water temps. Jack land two despite harsh conditions and I caught 6 bass and a perch. I also lost a bass at the boat. Interesting enough the fish were up shallow mostly on wood despite cold front and wind.
