The Undiscovered New - July 30th, 2016
Some days things just come together. Weather, water, friends, and fish. Today was one of those days. Greg, Brad and I floated from upper Shanklin's Ferry to Cedar Branch just below Harvey Falls. The overcast skies and stable water made for a great topwater bite. Brad caught a 30 inch musky pretty early on even though it flopped out of his Coosa before I could get over to take of picture of it. Greg landed over 60 fish including this 19.5 lbs pig in our six hour float. I had my best three bass in a long time at coming in at over 50 inches. Smallmouth especially big smallmouth on topwater is one of my favorite combinations in all of fishing. I can't wait to go again.
Total fish Caught = 110
Miles floated = 6.5
Best three bass limit = 50.5 inches
Minutes per fish = 9.8

Summers County Kayak Bass Anglers First Tournament- July 16th, 2016
The first ever Summers County Kayak Bass Angler tournament was hosted on the New River today. We had 10 anglers compete in the event. The weather was good. We had a storm coming in but it didn't hit until after the weight was finished. The event was your best 3 bass in inches measured by photograph. Our 10 SCKBA anglers caught 291 bass between the hours of 7am and 1pm. All 10 anglers measured a limit of bass at the weigh in. Our winner was Eddie Adams who measured a veryrespectable 49 inch 3 bass limit that included the big bass of the day at 18.5 inches. A big congrats to Eddie for a great day on the water....49 inches is stout especially for July. I finished 3rd behind Brian Aliff with 41.75 inches with my big fish being 16.5 inches seen in the picture. We had a good time and are planning on having our next SCKBA tournament on the Greenbrier on August 13th.

Afternoon Pond Fun - July 10th, 2016
A fun afternoon of bass and bluegills with Avery and Annalyn. Fishing takes many forms and shapes but the classic worm and a bobber are still hard to beat for a fun afternoon.

Rainy Fourth of July - July 4th, 2016
Brad and I floated the dam to first takeout on a morning when the rain was pouring. The horn blew early into the float but it didn't help the bite much. We did have the river to ourselves this holiday morning.
River miles floated = 3.5
Total fish caught = 42
Minutes per fish = 8.57 minutes
Best three bass in length = 32 inches

After the Flood- July 2nd, 2016
Brad, Greg Davis and I floated from the dam to first takeout down Southside at daybreak. This was my first time out since the great flood of 2016. The Greenbrier was still muddy and the New had some stain to it. The fishing from the dam to the first bridge was good but the river on down was slower. The fish have had a lot of stress on them on the last week with the G brier running 20 feet above normal. White with chart g tails were my best lure and flukes were a non factor today. Brad lead the way with 24 fish mostly on an in line spinner. I had 16 and Greg had 6. I had 4 fish 14 inches plus and one nice 15 inch largemouth from mouth of the spill way.
Miles floated = 3.5
Total Fish Caught = 43
Minutes per fish caught = 13.0
My biggest 3 in length = 42.5 inches
