Randy, Nathan, and I floated 6 miles from Pence Springs to Talcott. The water was low for this time of year because it has been so dry. This was my first trip of the year. The weather was hot(nearly 80) with a little wind. We had a great day on the water. The fish were active but still feeling a little winter time hang over. I landed 10, Randy 14 and Nathan 10 or so. With lower than usual water the trip took a little longer than normal at about 6 hours. I hooked and lost one really nice smallmouth on a fluke and missed to more good sized smallies. The fish were primarily hitting squarebills and flukes. My best 3 bass in length were 36 inches. Had I landed the two big ones I missed I would have been in the 40 inch range easily. We had some redeyes mixed in with our smallmouth bass on this day. We were catching them at 31.4 minutes a fish rate...which is not surprising for water temp still in the 50's and bluebird skies.
